Privacy & Cookies
Last updated: 3 June 2026
My Millport is a free, non-commercial community website for the Isle of Cumbrae, run by Keith Murray(“we”, “us”). We take your privacy seriously and only collect what we genuinely need. This note explains it in plain English.
Who's responsible
The data controller is Keith Murray (founder), contactable by email at hello.mymillport@gmail.com. Postal correspondence is welcomed at our registered office, supplied on written request to verified parties. ICO Registration No: C1950653. Once incorporated, the data controller will be MyDestination Platform Ltd (Scotland) operating the My Millport service; this notice will be updated.
What we collect and why
- If you create an account: your email address and any profile details you choose to add, so we can sign you in and save your preferences. Lawful basis: performance of the service you've asked for.
- Your saved lists and preferences(e.g. “My list”, bubble preferences) are stored in your own browser (localStorage) and, if you're signed in, against your account, so your choices persist. Lawful basis: the service you've requested.
- If you make a submission or suggestion: whatever you choose to include. We use it only to consider and respond to your submission. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in improving the site and responding to you.
What we don't do
We don't sell your data, we don't run advertising, and we don't share your data with third parties except the service providers below who help us run the site.
Cookies and similar technologies
We currently use only essential and functional storage:
- Sign-in / session cookies (via Supabase) to keep you logged in and secure.
- Browser localStorage for the features you actively use (your saved list, your preferences).
- Functional cookies set by our map provider (Mapbox) so the maps work.
Under UK rules (PECR, as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, in force 5 February 2026), these are essential/functional and do not require a consent banner.
Analytics: We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly, cookieless service. Plausible does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, and does not track you across sites. It counts page views and sessions using anonymised aggregate data only (no IP addresses stored). Because it sets no cookies and collects no personal data, it does not require a consent banner under PECR or UK GDPR. Plausible is based in the EU and is GDPR-compliant.
Service providers we rely on
Supabase (accounts, database, hosting of your data), Vercel (website hosting), Mapbox (maps), Open-Meteo (weather data — no personal data shared), Plausible Analytics (cookieless page-view counting — no personal data shared), Mailchimp (newsletter delivery — if you choose to subscribe). Some of these may process data outside the UK; where they do, appropriate safeguards are in place.
Children
Parts of the site are aimed at families. We keep data collection to a minimum, keep privacy settings high by default, and don't profile children or use nudge techniques. This page is intended to meet the spirit and substance of the ICO's Age Appropriate Design Code.
We don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13. If you are under 13, please use the site with a parent or guardian, and don't create an account or submit personal details without their help. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please email us and we'll delete it.
How long we keep things
Account data: for as long as you have an account, then deleted on request. Submissions: retained for up to 12 months, then deleted. You can ask us to delete your data at any time.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, or delete the data we hold about you, or object to how we use it. Email hello.mymillport@gmail.com and we'll respond promptly.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, tell us first — email hello.mymillport@gmail.com and we'll acknowledge within 30 days and try to put it right. You can also complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk.
Updates
We'll update this notice when anything material changes. The “Last updated” date at the top tells you when it last did.
