What to do

🥾

Walking

From gentle seafront strolls to coastal cliff paths

Millport has walks for every pace and every age. The flat seafront promenade is perfect for a morning mile. The inner roads wind through wildflower meadows. The coastal paths take you to seal colonies, sea stacks, and views of Arran that stop you in your tracks.

💚30 mins walking daily reduces cardiovascular risk by up to 35%
🚲

Cycling

The 11-mile island circuit — one of Scotland's great rides

The Island Circuit is 11 miles of near-flat coastal road with the sea on your left almost the whole way. No traffic lights. No junctions to worry about. Just you, the road, and three countries visible on a clear day. Bikes are available from Mapes of Millport (01475 530 444).

💚Cycling the full circuit burns approximately 350–500 calories
🏊

Wild Swimming

Kames Bay and beyond — clean, cold, and brilliant

Millport's beaches are some of the cleanest in Scotland. Kames Bay — the main beach — is sheltered, sandy, and safe for swimming throughout the summer months. The water is cold by most standards and absolutely perfect by Scottish ones. Experienced swimmers head to the wilder south shore.

💚Cold water swimming boosts mood, reduces inflammation, and improves circulation
🦭

Wildlife & Nature

Grey seals, dolphins, basking sharks, and 200+ bird species

Spending time in nature measurably reduces cortisol levels and improves mental health. Millport makes this easy: grey seals bask at Portachur Point, bottlenose dolphins pass through in summer, basking sharks cruise offshore in late spring. The island's wildflower meadows are extraordinary in June.

💚Time in nature reduces cortisol by up to 20% after just 20 minutes
🛶

Water Sports

Kayaking, paddleboarding, and sailing

Millport's sheltered bay is ideal for water sports at any level. Kayaking around the headlands gives you a completely different perspective on the island — the seal colonies are much more accessible from the water. Local providers run taster sessions throughout the summer season.

💚Paddling sports build core strength and improve balance and coordination
🧘

Mindfulness & Rest

The island has a pace that's genuinely restorative

There's something about island life that slows everything down. No through traffic. No crowds. The sound of the sea from almost everywhere in town. Millport has long been a place people come to recover, reset, and breathe. The Cathedral garden is one of the most peaceful places in Scotland.

💚Time near the sea reduces anxiety and improves sleep quality

⛳ Millport Golf Club

Millport Golf Club is one of Scotland's most scenic courses — 18 holes of moorland and links golf set high on the island, with panoramic views of Arran, Bute, the Firth of Clyde, and on clear days, Ireland. Established in 1888, it's one of the oldest clubs in Ayrshire. The course sits on the elevated interior of the island — completely different terrain from the seafront, wild and open.

Visitors are welcome. Green fees are very reasonable compared to mainland courses of this quality. Club hire available. The views alone are worth the green fee.
